The composition of Ethan’s drawing does an excellent job of pulling your eye around the paper. Starting as the hand on the top left, before morphing slowly across to the right side around the centerline of the drawing. As it completes its transformation back on the lower left, the coral adds a visual weight, further guiding your attention from right to left. The only notable change to the drawing is the second to last cuttlefish. The size and level of the transformation is too similar to the completed cuttlefish. It could be adjusted slightly to appear more distinct, or even removed entirely and replaced with the third stage on a different angle. The use of small lines to create depth is very well executed. However, Ethan could use a darker black in some areas to utilize the full tonal range. All of the textures in Ethan’s drawing are incredibly developed and thought through. The details on the cuttlefish and the coral are very meticulous, and to me, this shows the time and effort Ethan dedicated to this piece.
