The composition of Brendan’s drawing may not technically pull your eye around the page but instead pulls you to the center. The overlap of the curved pillars creates a perceived movement. I can imagine them slowly rotating around the light in the center, sliding by one another to open doorways to new dreams. I almost wish you could see a glimpse of the dreams through the holes in the pillars. The perspective of the legs and hands helps illustrate the first-person aspect of the dream and having them go past the border makes it feel precarious. The marks used on the hands and legs work well to distinguish them from the pillars. I think having the slightly erased lines of the pillars closer to the light emphasizes the blinding effect. However, there could be some darker shading on the pillars that are blocked from the light, or longer shadows cast by the pillars in front to create more depth and dimension.

The composition of this drawing accurately represents dreams and how we humans experience them. By placing the vanishing point at the center of the page, Brendan has effectively created the scene of falling from a high place into the void or the light. Furthermore, the addition of hands and legs puts the viewers into this situation invoking a feeling of fear or uncertainty.

Brendan can further enhance this composition by maintaining consistent proportions with the buildings/ structures. This creates a better scene and a realistic environment. Additionally, more details would be beneficial for this composition. By assigning a material to the surfaces, a sense of depth and three-dimensionality could be added to this drawing.

A full range of tones was not present in this drawing. The use of shading is lacking, resulting in a flat or two-dimensional image. This could be enhanced by using the focal point as a light source and creating a gradient that gets darker as it goes up from the pit. This would result in a more effective perspective drawing and add depth to the image.

Overall, the great composition of this drawing could be further improved by adding more details and a full range of dark to light tones. Well done!
