I enjoy this piece because Dre is trying to be light-handed and put thought into their marks while leaving open space. I enjoy the contrast in topics; we see a lovely self-portrait, which appears “normal” at first glance. On closer inspection, we see lips and ears on the top of the head and eyeballs hanging down; this adds interest. There is a familiarity to Dre in real life. I like how the three figures combine to make an organic form. The figures are straightforward to read and moves your eye around the piece. I want to see it slightly more prominent, taking up more of the page. I enjoy the gestured shading and mark-making skills that I have always enjoyed in your pieces—effective use of trios crayon and toned paper.
