I think that the lighting and detail on the eyes is very well done and there is a balanced transition between the techniques of shading/filling in the shape. the eye feels it turns into a wave a bit to quickly into a wave though, making the last and second last stage almost feel similar. The composition is better then in the old one, though maybe bringing the eye up on the paper would maybe help it feel like it takes up more space and create more of a flow.
