Even with a central focal point, the composition of this piece is quite dynamic. The paint brushes act as lines that draw our attention from the center of the page to the outskirts. Our attention is then wrapped up in the colorful fabric that circulates the glass mirror. In turn, the mirror adds balance to the image as it breaks up the space and clarifies the separation from the cup and surrounding fabric. Space is filled and used effectively.
The mark-making throughout the piece is deliberate and expressive. Linework and shading are used to communicate the direction and nature of each object. The organic shape of the fabric contrasts the sharp geometry within the glass cup. The variety of tone within each hue adds depth creating the illusion of 3 dimensionality. Yet I believe these darks could be pushed further ever so slightly.
To achieve the fullest effect of broken color, I would suggest more color layering to occur. In addition, the red section looks slightly disconnected from the rest of the fabric. If blue were added, creating a warm purple, perhaps it would look more unified. As well as adding more red/purple throughout the fabric.
Otherwise, fantastic revision. Its an excellent piece 🙂
